Tim & I agree that Luxembourg is our favorite city in Europe. Tim’s family on his Grandfather’s side and my family on my Grandmother’s side originated from Luxembourg, as does the Welu name.

Many people think Luxembourg is German – it was occupied by Germany but they resent that terribly. They speak “Luxembourgese” which is a derivative of French. They have built their economy around finance & banking similar to Switzerland. They were not bombed during the war, so their old buildings and fortification are still intact and spectacular. The landscape and weather is very much like Dubuque, Iowa with hills and bluffs. They also have excellent, excellent french food!

Castles were built with their subjects far below them on the hill so they could watch over them.
